Welcome back to our 8th edition of the 2022 weekly top 10!
As usual, we are glad to have you all onboard with us. Our community has been expanding ever since we started, and we wanted to thank every single one of you who joined the NFT Community and followed us to Substack.
For our new members, the Weekly Top 10 is a way to showcase some of the best art we’ve seen and help artists gain visibility in the eyes of the community.
The Weekly Top 10 is curated by @KateMacDonald, an exceptional artist and writer who is deeply involved in the community.
10. “re:frakt 06”, by @MelShapcott
re:frakt 6 by @MelShapcott is digital grunge at its most expressive. Geometric shapes, shards of light, and static swarm in this stunning flight of birds? Of leaves? There is contemplation for hours. As described by the artist:
“re:frakt is a collection of digital native paintings, shapes and colors layered and ordered, patterns emerging by default, stories told by the subconscious, playing with light”

9. “Masternation”, by @gang_xrp
If you’ve ever seen Robert Beck/Buck’s washroom doors, you’ll have a special appreciation of Masternation by @gang_xrp. While this joyous riot of scribbled text and line-drawn nudes might be too provocative for some tastes, it’s expert in its composition and use of colour. In the artist’s words:
“This piece takes a poke at our instaddictions yea …instaddictions and is it the instant-ness of it is it just ingrained in our culture? Art is cool that way it’s a way to open dialogue and ask questions are we in the US more prudish? Is sex addiction more common than we think? And so on and so forth I could write a giant diatribe but I’ll let the Art keep the convo going.”

8. “Ascension - Original”, by @imagine_hue
In Ascension by @imagine_hue, the spare use of light concentrates the viewer’s focus within a moody palette and ominous vignette. The aerial perspective created by the clouds and buildings fading into the distance belies a composition more considered than its apparent simplicity.
“An eclipse is a phenomenon that adds its own color to other existence. This carefully crafted artwork accentuates a moody ambience over an otherwise mundane space.”

7. “Process II”, by @bejado
Reminiscent of Roy Lichenstein because of its Ben-Day dots, Process II by @bejado is a graphic romp of rhythmic curves in a charming palette. Its blobby globby whimsical shapes are a cheery antidote to an otherwise heavy week.

6. “Selfie”, by @tsirin88
Dynamic palette work meets digital image in Selfie by @tsirin88 - but like so many selfies, the face of the subject has been subsumed by their technology in this gorgeous painting with lots to think about. In the words of the artist:
“We increasingly began to perceive ourselves through the smartphone screen! Selfies have become a part of our life and culture.”

5. “LevFordona”, by @salvo3_d
LevFordona by @salvo3_d presents us with a fortified city in the crevice of a mountain. The sharp diagonal, buttressed on one side, leads us up into the image while the hanging pods capture our attention and pull us back to imagine life in this enclosed subterranean world. The ambient blue atmosphere highlights its spectacular depth and creates tension in contrast to its red details.

4. “A Childhood In Heaven”, by @TheHCTurk
A Childhood In Heaven by @TheHCTurk takes book art to its breaking point in this 300,000 x 35-pixel image that tells an entire short story in a single line of text - 208 feet long! I’ve seen writers wrestling about how to bring their books to NFT format - they could take a page from HC Turk’s collection.
“Story: While creating a metaverse computer game, a programmer relives a childhood he might not survive.”

2. “Visionary”, by @KireevArt_NFT
Surreal in its subject matter, Visionary by @KireevArt_NFT lays in wait like a wood nymph assassin, its bleeding hearts and fir foliage adding a wild spring charm not easily dismissed. As quoted by the artist:
“If we limit our imaginations to real world, we will forever try to copy its beauty, but we can never do anything more.” -Galen Rowell

1. “Kansas”, by @vjcentero
Compiled from the textbook Atlas of human anatomy and surgery (1831-1854), Kansas by @vjcentero envisions the body as geographical landscape with astonishingly beautiful results. Its soft textures and colours belie the anatomical details standing disguised as branches and foliage. In the artist’s words:
“The most difficult place to reach is only available through stillness.”
